Appventure

Services

Three ways to work with us.

A defined build, a chartered accountant inside your finance team, or the venture studio for an idea you bring us.

Built in your environment, with a perpetual licence to the source code.

The three routes

Pick the shape of the engagement.

Something specific to build, a finance team that needs a developer inside it, or an idea you cannot build alone. Each has its own way in, and none ends with you renting your own software back from us.

  • Build something

A defined project, scoped in discovery and priced by CA(SA) developer hours before we start. It runs in your own environment, and you keep a perpetual licence to its source code, for your own use.

    What it is for

A problem with edges: a report somebody rebuilds by hand every month, a control that lives in an inbox, a model that has outgrown the spreadsheet it was born in.

  • The Embedded CA

A chartered accountant who codes, seconded into your finance team to help your people change the way they work, take on a complex problem that needs full-time attention, or fill a temporary gap in your team. Everything built runs in your environment, under the same perpetual licence.

    What it is for

Finance teams who want to drive change from the inside, rather than hire external consultants.

  • Venture studio

Bring us an idea and we build it with you and take it to market together. We use our developer expertise to build technology that solves the problem, and our CA(SA) experience to convert that technology into a company that can scale. TapOut and FieldFinance both started that way: a founder with a problem, and a partner with the keyboard.

    What it is for

An idea you cannot build on your own, where the people building it should also have the experience required to help you start and scale your company.

Terms are a conversation, not a form.

How we work

Run like an engagement. Built like a product.

Four gates, each with something you sign off before we move on.

  1. 1

    Discovery

    What happens
A four-hour workshop, in person, then a rapid proof-of-concept design and validation against it, so we know we have understood the problem.
    You sign off
A feasibility view and a pipeline you agree before anything is built.
  2. 2

    Pre-execution

    What happens
Mobilise data, access, licences and every input to start.
    You sign off
A plan with every input in place.
  1. 3

    Execution

    What happens
Build, deploy and senior-review each deliverable.
    You sign off
Each deliverable, reviewed, with your team in the loop.
  2. 4

    Completion

    What happens
A design and technical specification document, written so your team can run and extend what was built.
    You sign off
The handover pack: the design and technical specifications of what was built.

We put the value we give a client before margin or revenue, and we would take a loss before leaving a project with an unhappy client.

What you keep

We build inside your own environment, Microsoft or Google, whichever your organisation already runs. The application sits in your own tenant, so your data never has to leave it, and there is no subscription to us keeping it alive. In practice you provision an account in your own tenant, an employee's or a service account, and we build with your accounts, your licences and your platforms.

At every gate: your environment, your source code, your documentation.

Four gates, and every one of them is a place where you can say no.

The Embedded CA

A chartered accountant who codes, inside your team.

A secondment, in effect: a chartered accountant who codes joins your finance team for a minimum number of hours a month, agreed at discovery, and you pay for that minimum and any time over it. Use it when you want financial transformation done from the inside, by a digitally upskilled colleague your team works beside, rather than handed down by an external consultant. What the Embedded CA does in those hours is the service tier: resourcing you direct yourself, a project we manage end to end, or a senior-reviewed engagement with a senior CA developer checking everything that leaves.

The rate card

RolePer hour
Associate CA DeveloperR 1,000
Experienced CA DeveloperR 1,500
Senior CA DeveloperR 2,000

Confirmed after discovery, once we have seen your environment.

What the hour buys

One person, two professions.

The rate is for a chartered accountant who can also develop software: the person who understands the control is the person who builds it. No brief to translate, no second meeting to explain why the number matters.

What it replaces

A business analyst to write it down, a developer to build it, a reviewer who knows the accounting to check it, and the meetings between the three.

In the rate

  • Scoping by someone who has closed a month-end
  • The build itself
  • Senior CA(SA) review before anything leaves
  • Documentation your team can work from
  • A perpetual licence to the source code

How the rate card works

  • Rates shown in ZAR
  • Final rate set by skill and complexity
  • A minimum of hours a month, agreed at discovery (at least 40)
  • You pay the minimum, plus any time over it

What projects typically cost

Ranges, not a quote.

Every build is scoped in discovery and priced off the same rate card, so the honest answer to what it costs is a range until we have seen your environment. These are the ranges most projects land in.

Need an Extra Hand?

Many clients own and operate their Appventure solution without our assistance.

For teams who would like a little extra peace of mind, we offer an optional monthly support package.

Optional Support Package

From R 9,000 / month

  • 10 hours of our experts' time a month, on a three-month minimum
  • More hours a month at a lower rate, up to 50
  • Bug fixes, “how-do-I” questions, or minor enhancements
  • Time used in 15-minute increments
  • Cancel after the minimum with 30 days' notice

40R 33,000R 825

Nobody has ever been pleased to see a range. Everybody has been displeased to see a wrong number.

Questions

The ones we are actually asked.

Support, timelines, what the licence fee covers, and what happens the day you want something changed.

Do you offer support/ongoing assistance?

Absolutely - support is available on request. We design our solutions to be entirely transferable, which is why we do not mandate any ongoing assistance fee. If you would like ongoing assistance, we offer a support package from R 9,000 a month for 10 hours of our time (hours do not accumulate), on a three-month minimum, with more hours a month at a lower rate. This can be used for general queries, bug fixes or minor improvements/tweaks.

Can I purchase additional support hours?

Absolutely. If your team needs more than your package's hours in a given month, extra time is billed at the rate card's hourly rate. You can add hours on an as-needed basis.

How long does implementation take?

Most core builds wrap up within 4-6 weeks, depending on complexity and your team's turnaround on feedback and IT setup. We'll give you a tailored timeline as part of your kickoff.

What's included in the once-off licence fee?

The once-off licence fee gives you a perpetual licence to the source code, for your own use, and includes implementation and custom configurations for your company's brand.

What if I want additional customisations/features to be added to the solution?

We offer custom configurations at the rate card's hourly rates. You can use our time to configure the solution however you please. Where the additions are large enough to be a piece of work in their own right, we scope and price them like any other build and agree it with you before we start.

How are your bespoke service offerings priced?

We typically charge according to the model defined above, but charge additional hours for the bespoke elements of the app which are not already included in our other service offerings. For example, our other service offerings include a report generator: this will not be viewed as an additional configuration unless we need to make significant changes to the functionality of the feature or screen.
