Privacy Notice

This notice explains what personal information we collect through appventure.tech, why we collect it, who handles it for us, and the rights you have over it. We have kept it short, because we collect very little.

1.Who is responsible for your information

This website is operated by Appventure Developer House (Pty) Ltd, trading as Appventure, registration number 2024/558243/07. Our registered address is on record with the Companies and Intellectual Property Commission (CIPC), and we will give it to you on request. We are the responsible party for the personal information described in this notice, under the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA).

Our Information Officer is Roger Wyllie, registered with the Information Regulator on 15/10/2026 under registration number 2026-069422. You can reach him, and anyone here who handles a privacy request, at info@appventure.tech.

2.What we collect, and when

We collect personal information only when you give it to us, and only in these ways.

  • When you send us a note through a form on this site: your name, your email address, the message you write, and your company and phone number if you choose to add them. The form sends your note to our mailbox as an email, and keeps a copy in a private list that only our team can sign in to, for up to a year.
  • When you apply to the CA(SA) Developer Programme or for a role: the details you enter on that form, sent to us the same way and kept in the same private list for up to a year. A programme application also asks for your date of birth, your address, your current employer and role, your qualifications and your CV, and may carry other documents you choose to attach, such as references; the files reach our mailbox as attachments to the same email, and the website keeps no copy of them (the list records only their names).
  • When you contact us by email or on LinkedIn: whatever you choose to tell us, in that channel.
  • When a run in our game makes a cap table and you choose to sign it: the name you type, your score and the world you drove. The cap tables are public, so use a name you are happy for anyone to see. You can skip signing and still play. A run that beats the published target is given an entry code, which we keep with the run's name, score and time.
  • When you enter a competition we run through the entry form: your name, your email address, your organisation if you give it, your entry code, the car you choose, the two screenshots you attach (of your repost and of the message sharing the site with a colleague), and whether you ticked the box to hear from us. The form emails the entry with its screenshots to our mailbox and keeps one record of the entry, without the screenshots, in the list the draw is made from.

3.What stays on your own device

Some things never reach us at all.

  • Your choice of light or dark theme, and the game's record of your own best runs on that device, are kept in your browser's storage. They are not sent to us, and clearing your browser's site data removes them.

4.Cookies and analytics

This site sets no advertising or tracking cookies, and it does not follow you across other websites.

We use a privacy-focused analytics service from our hosting provider to count visits and see which pages are read. It sets no cookies, and it gives us totals rather than a record of what any one person did.

Like every website, our hosting provider's servers process your device's internet address and basic technical details in order to deliver the pages to you and to keep the site secure. When you send a note or an application, post a score or enter the competition, a scrambled form of the address (a keyed code that cannot be turned back into the address) is kept for up to a day to limit repeated posts and entries, and then discarded.

5.Why we use it

We use your information for these purposes, and no others.

  • To reply to you, and to negotiate or carry out a contract with you if one follows.
  • To consider an application you have sent us.
  • To show the cap tables and to run a competition: verifying entry codes, making the draw, verifying a winning run, and contacting and announcing a winner.
  • To keep the site working and secure, and to understand in aggregate how it is used.

We rely on your consent where you choose to give us information, on the steps needed to conclude or perform a contract with you, and on our legitimate interest in running and securing our website. We do not use your details for direct marketing unless you have asked us to, and we do not make decisions about you by automated means.

6.Whether you have to give it

Giving us your information is voluntary. If you would rather not, you can still read everything on this site and play the game. We cannot reply to a note without a way to reach you, consider an application without its details, or put a run on the cap table without a name.

7.Who we share it with

We do not sell or rent personal information. We share it only with service providers who process it for us, under terms that require them to keep it confidential and secure, and where the law requires us to.

  • Website hosting and analytics: Vercel Inc.
  • Delivery of the notes you send through our forms: Resend.
  • The business mailbox those notes, applications and entries arrive in: Microsoft 365 (Exchange Online).
  • Storage of the cap tables' names and scores, the entry codes, the list of competition entries, and the private list of the notes and applications sent through our forms: Upstash.
  • Our business email and documents, where your note ends up.
  • The names on the cap tables are visible to every visitor. A competition winner's name may be announced publicly, and the winner's name and contact details are given to the provider of the prize (for the Year-End Sprint competition, Race Day Events in Cape Town) to book it, and to the airline and the accommodation where the prize includes a trip.

8.Where it is processed

Some of these providers process information on servers outside South Africa, including in the United States and the European Union. When that happens we rely on your consent, on the transfer being necessary to do what you have asked of us, or on the provider being bound by law or contract to a level of protection substantially similar to POPIA's.

9.How long we keep it

  • Notes and applications: the copy in our private list for up to a year, after which it is deleted automatically (sooner if we delete it); the email in our mailbox for as long as the conversation or the business relationship needs, and then for as long as the law requires us to keep business records.
  • The cap tables: a name and score stay until better runs push them off the table, or until we reset it, for example when a competition ends. An entry code is kept for 120 days.
  • Competition entries: the emailed entry and the draw list for three months after the draw, and then for the period the Consumer Protection Act requires a promoter to keep records of a promotional competition. If you ticked the box to hear from us, your email address is kept for that until you unsubscribe.
  • Analytics: as totals, which do not identify you.

10.How we protect it

The site is served over an encrypted connection. Access to our mailbox and to the systems behind the site is limited to the people who need it. If a breach ever put your information at risk, we would tell you and the Information Regulator, as POPIA requires.

11.Children

This site is written for businesses and professionals. It is not directed at children, our competitions are open only to people aged 18 or over, and we do not knowingly collect a child's personal information. If you believe a child has given us theirs, tell us and we will remove it.

12.Your rights

Under POPIA you may, at no charge for the request itself:

  • ask whether we hold personal information about you, and ask for a copy of it;
  • ask us to correct or delete information that is inaccurate, out of date, excessive or unlawfully obtained;
  • ask us to take your name off a cap table, or to withdraw a competition entry;
  • object to our processing of your information, and withdraw a consent you have given;
  • object to direct marketing at any time: email info@appventure.tech with the word unsubscribe and you are taken off the list before the next mailing.

13.How to reach us, and how to complain

Write to info@appventure.tech. We will confirm who you are before acting on a request, and reply within a reasonable time.

If you are not satisfied with our answer, you may lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa: JD House, 27 Stiemens Street, Braamfontein, Johannesburg, 2001; POPIAComplaints@inforegulator.org.za; or through the complaints page at inforegulator.org.za.

14.Changes to this notice

We will update this notice when what we collect or how we use it changes, and change the date at the top when we do. The version on this page is the one in force.
